CoolSculpting® Vs. Liposuction

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between Liposuction and CoolSculpting®?

CoolSculpting® from Victoria’s Cosmetic Medical Clinic in Launceston offers an alternative to liposuction that can reduce your fat bulges without surgery, but what else sets liposuction and CoolSculpting® apart?

CoolSculpting® Vs Liposuction: weighing up the pros and cons

Although both treatments are capable of achieving results, CoolSculpting® and Liposuction treatments differ considerably in everything from the procedure to the recovery. Liposuction has long been a treatment of choice for thousands of patients looking to reduce unwanted fat pockets from their body. CoolSculpting®, on the other hand, is a more recently established procedure and many people are still unclear about how it differs from traditional liposuction.

CoolSculpting ®

Pros:

  • No downtime involved – you can resume your regular activities immediately
  • Eliminates 20% of the fat within the treated area in a single treatment
  • It is a non-invasive treatment – no surgery or needles required
  • The treatment removes the fat cells from the body completely
  • CoolSculpting® is generally cheaper than liposuction
  • As it is non-surgical, the risks involved are minimal
  • The fat cells are the only cells that are affected
  • Treatment only takes 1 hour per area treated

Cons:

  • Results are not immediate – some will be visible 2 weeks post-treatment but generally, it will take 3-6 months for the body to flush the dead fat cells
  • The treatment has been said to be a little painful at times
  • Not considered suitable as a solution to obesity

Liposuction

Pros:

  • Results are immediate however bruising and swelling may be visible
  • The treatment removes the fat cells from the body completely
  • Liposuction can treat larger fat deposits

Cons:

  • Rapid weight loss after this procedure will put you at risk of gallstones
  • There is a big risk that you could experience blood clots
  • More expensive than a single CoolSculpting ® treatment
  • The procedure could leave scarring as it involves surgery
  • Minimum 1-2 days downtime required for healing

Which of these treatments is more suitable for you?

Although liposuction can achieve similar results, if you are aiming to get rid of fat deposits that won’t go away from exercise or dieting, CoolSculpting® is the better alternative. Not only does it not require surgery, but the treatment is less expensive and has far fewer possible side effects.

In saying that, some people may be more suited to liposuction and others CoolSculpting®. The differences will be explained in consultation.

How the treatment works

By carefully suctioning the area on the body being treated, CoolSculpting® is able to safely deliver a controlled amount of cooling that will target the fat cells beneath the surface of the skin. The treatment produces a long-term result as it literally cools away the fat cells so they will not return.
