About Laser Tattoo Removal

Do you have an unwanted tattoo you want gone forever?

At Victoria’s Cosmetic Medical Clinic we use the advanced enlighten laser for tattoo removal – and in most cases, we can remove the whole tattoo, not just fade it.

Using both picosecond, nanosecond and triple wave-length technology, the enlighten laser is able to efficiently break down the particles of ink in the tattoo – which are then absorbed safely by the body.

We offer complete removal of almost all colours in any tattoo, not just fading of the tattoo. Results may vary, which will be explained during your consultation.

Who said that tattoos are designed to last forever?

Thanks to the revolutionary advancements in laser technology, the enlighten laser removal system will quickly rid you of what you would like to forget.

Tattoo ink is deposited deep in the skin. In order to reach all of the ink in the skin, multiple treatment sessions are needed for clearance.

The total number of treatments varies depending on composition, depth and the colour of the ink, as well as the size of the tattoo. You should be prepared for multiple treatment sessions and we can give you a better idea of the total number of treatments needed during your consultation.

In many cases, we are able to completely remove tattoos.
However it is very important to know that some ink colours are more difficult to clear than others. With enlighten’s three wavelengths we are able to remove most colours except white. We can discuss this further during your consultation.

Victoria’s Cosmetic Medical Clinic is proud to have been the second clinic in Australia to offer treatment for tattoo removal with the Cutera enlighten. Due to our experience with enlighten tattoo removal, Anne Talbot, Victoria’s CEO has been invited on multiple occasions to speak at the Cutera University to discuss her experience with the technology.

Anne was also invited to write a guest article on the Cutera enlighten, which you can read here:

Remove your tattoo with enlighten™

Introduced in 2014 and improved in 2018 enlighten is the most advanced laser system for the proven and predictable removal of tattoos and benign pigmented lesions.

enlighten™ laser tattoo removal incorporates both picosecond and nanosecond technology to efficiently break down the particles of ink in the tattoo. Picosecond laser pulses have been shown to remove tattoos more completely and in fewer treatment sessions in comparison to previous traditional lasers.

The Best Tattoo Removal Option

Enlighten features extremely short and high power laser pulses which efficiently and quickly break down the ink particles in tattoos. A picosecond is one-trillionth of a second and is 1,000 times shorter than the nanosecond pulses used in existing lasers for tattoo removal. Picosecond pulses have been shown to remove tattoos more completely and in fewer treatment sessions than traditional laser used historically in the past.

The total number of treatments vary depending on the composition, depth and the colour of the ink, as well as the size of the tattoo and your body’s ability to be able to process the broken particles and heal the tattoo area.  As the particles fractionate and become smaller and smaller it will gradually fade.

You should be prepared for multiple treatment sessions however we do say on average between 4 – 7, with some people requiring more and a few requiring less. Some have even gone in one or two sessions.

Patients compare the procedure to a rubber band being snapped against their skin. Topical anaesthetic and/or chilling may be required to help with any discomfort. As soon as the treatment is completed there is no ongoing pain.

Most patients experience redness, swelling, light crusting and some blistering following treatment. These side effects are temporary. There may also be some frosting on the surface of the skin which will change to a light scab over the next few days. Occasionally some blistering may develop. These side effects are all temporary and will resolve over the next one to two weeks.

A light dressing is applied immediately after treatment and may be removed in 24 hours at which time we require that the daily use of a scar reduction gel Stratamed or Strataderm. This is to be used once daily (usually after shower) during the entire treatment healing time. If the area becomes wet then reapply.

Stratamed and Strataderm may be purchased at Victorias Cosmetic Medical Clinic.

The effect tattoo removal has on your skin does not relate to your complexion or skin type but has more to do with the type of tattoo you have, the ink used and where the tattoo was done. This also determines how many treatments you will need to remove the tattoo and  how much of the tattoo can be removed.

Your first step for Tattoo Removal is to make a consultation with our registered nurses. This will include a test patch, quote for treatment on your tattoo and any other questions you may have.

Downtime is minimal depending on your working environment – If working in a dirty dusty environment then it may be necessary to keep the area covered while at work.

Clients can return to their regular activities immediately following the treatment.
